The Holy Ghost Is The Angel Gabriel

It has been taught there is only one God and that this God existed in a trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The purpose of this lesson will serve to give scriptural understanding to actually who and what the Holy Ghost is and what he is responsible for. The Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost are names that are often used interchangeably and in this lesson, the title used will be that of Holy Ghost. Aside from teaching that the Holy Ghost is part of the Godhead people frequently speak of coming in contact with it. A common occurrence one will encounter in the church is that of the minister informing his congregation that the Holy Ghost spoke to him. He then goes on to fill his members in on the details of the message that he received from the Holy Ghost. The content of the received message may vary from that days sermon to something about an individual member or some message he was instructed to convey to the church as a whole. The Holy Ghost is also held responsible for causing individuals to become uninhabited in their actions or what is commonly referred to as becoming happy. Some twist uncontrollably while others may jump, run, dance or shout and all these various actions are said to be attributable to an individual being full of the Holy Ghost. When one examines the scriptures they will find that the Holy Ghost is an angel not a God and therefore not part of the Godhead, his job is to bring the word of God.

WHAT IS THE HOLY GHOST

In the following verses you will find that Jesus refers to the Comforter as being the Holy Ghost, and He also refers to the Comforter as being the Spirit of truth. These different names are all used to identify the same entity.

John (14:16) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

(26) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John (15:26) But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John (16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John (7:39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

In the above verses there are two characteristics of The Holy Ghost which will serve to show that the Holy Ghost is an angel. 1st - Jesus refers to the Holy Ghost as Holy. 2nd -Jesus refers to the Holy Ghost as a Spirit. This lets one know that the Holy Ghost is an angel because we will see in the following verses, that it is God=s angels that are spirits and holy, hence they are Holy Spirits. Jesus said the Comforter is the Holy Ghost and the Spirit of truth therefore the Comforter is holy and a spirit hence he is an angel.

GOD=S ANGELS ARE SPIRITS

The following will show that angels are spirits.

Psalms (104:1) Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.

(4) Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:

Hebrews (1:6) And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

(7) And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Note the following verses lets us know that all angels are spirits.

Hebrews (1:13) But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

(14) Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

GOD=S HOLY ANGELS

Matthew (25:31) When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Revelation (14:10) The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

A point of clarification should be made at this time while it is noted in Hebrews (1:14) that all angels are spirits it should be pointed out that not all angels are holy. The following will show that there are also evil angels. Therefore all of God=s angels are spirits and they are either holy or evil.

GOD=S EVIL ANGELS

The following will point out that there are evil angels.

Psalm (78:41) Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy one of Israel.

(42) They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

(43) How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

(44) And turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

In the next verse note that God sent evil angels among the Egyptians.

Psalm (78:49) He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

Judges (9:23) Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

Now that it has been established that the Holy Ghost, also known as the Comforter and the Spirit of truth is an angel we will look at what is his duty. It will also be demonstrated that the Comforter or Holy Ghost or Spirit of truth is non other than the angel Gabriel. While the specific duty of the Holy Ghost will be examined first we look at the role of an angel as it relates to God=s protocol.

GOD=S PROTOCOL

The following verses will show the protocol of God. And the protocol is that The Father gives the message to the Son, the Son gives the message to the angel and the angel gives the message to Israel.

Note Jesus lets you know He and the Comforter can not be at the same place at the same time and that He will send the Comforter to you.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Now the following verses show that when the Spirit of truth or Comforter comes, he will serve as a guide into all truth to the people, but note he will not speak of himself but instead shall speak of what ever he shall hear. So we see that the Spirit of truth or the angel will convey only that which he received from Jesus. So again Jesus gives the message to the angel and the angel gives the message to Israel.

(12) I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

(13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

(14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The next verse shows that Jesus has that of the Father and so what He gave to the angel or the Comforter He received from the Father. As stated God=s protocol is the Father gives the message to the Son, the Son gives the message to an angel and the angel gives the message to Israel.

(15) All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

This next verse is another example showing God=s protocol. God gave the message to Jesus and Jesus showed it to His servants Israel, by way of an angel.

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

John in the following verses is speaking of the protocol of God. When he states that they are one, he is not saying, that they exist as one, as far as being the same entity but he is saying they are one in that the message is the same. Again the Father gives the message to the Son, He gives it to an angel, and the angel gives it to Israel.

I John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

(8) And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

GABRIEL THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

Remember the Comforter or Holy Ghost or Spirit of truth in John (16:13) was to sent to bring the truth and to guide and give understanding. John (16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. The scriptures will show that the angel that did these things was the angel named Gabriel.

GABRIEL SENT TO DANIEL

In the following verse Daniel the prophet had received a vision.

Daniel (8:1) In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.

(2) And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass at Shushan in the place, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

Now after Daniel had received the vision he was without understanding as to what the vision meant and he is going to find something that had the appearance of a man standing before him.

Daniel (8:15) And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had see the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

The following verse informs us that it was Gabriel who was made to make Daniel understand the vision. Keep in mind that it was an angel who was called the Spirit of truth or the Holy Ghost who brought understanding. And again you will see that the angel=s name is Gabriel.

Daniel (8:16) And I heard a man=s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

To further clarify that Gabriel is an angel notice in the following verses again Daniel had been praying when Gabriel had been made to fly swiftly to Daniel. And once again he brought understanding to Daniel. Now we know that Gabriel was an angel because man do not fly. And in remembering God=s protocol the Father gives the message to the Son, who gives it to an angel, who gives it to Israel.

Daniel 9:3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

(21) Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

(22) And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

(23) At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

GABRIEL SENT TO ZACHARIAS

The following verses show where the angel Gabriel was sent to Zacharias to tell him of the upcoming birth of his son John the Baptist. Again in verse (19) Gabriel tells Zacharias that he was sent to him.

Luke (1:5) There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

(11) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

(12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

(13) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

(18) And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

(19) And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

GABRIEL SENT TO MARY

Here we have the angel Gabriel bringing the word of God to Mary concerning the birth of Jesus.

Luke (1:26) And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

(27) To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

(28) And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

(29) And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

(30) And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

(31) And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

(32) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

GABRIEL IS THE HOLY GHOST

Having viewed the scriptures that show that the angel Gabriel was the one brought understanding we will examine additional scripture that shows that Gabriel and the Holy Ghost are one in the same. Here you find the apostle Peter is speaking about prophecy which is the foretelling or prediction of a future event. Note in verse (21) he states that the prophecy came from holy men who were moved by the Holy Ghost.

II Peter (1:19) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

(20) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

(21) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

We know from previous scriptures that the Holy Ghost is an angel. And here Peter is saying that the Holy Ghost which is an angel brought prophecy to the holy men of old times. Now prophecy is the foretelling of future events. Was it not Gabriel an angel who told Daniel about future kingdoms that were to arise in Daniel Chapter 8, was it not Gabriel who told Zacharias about the future birth of his son John the Baptist, and was it not Gabriel who told Mary about her virgin birth to Jesus. These were all prophecies given to Israel by the angel Gabriel.

Remember Jesus said that the Comforter and the Holy Ghost and the Spirit of truth were all one of the same.

John (14:16) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

By now hopefully one realizes that the Holy Ghost is not some ectoplasm that somehow enters inside an individuals body. The Holy Ghost or Spirit is an angel which brings understanding to God=s word. And if someone is full of the Holy Ghost that means he or she is full of the knowledge of God=s word. And if someone says the Holy Ghost spoke to them, then what was said should be found between the pages of the Holy Bible because that is where one finds God=s word.

Peace to all who seek the truth in Jesus name.
